About

I am a contributing editor for High Country News and freelance journalist based in Gunnison, Colorado. I often write about labor organizing, tourism-reliant communities in the West, public lands and energy industries.

My freelance work has appeared in Harper’s, The Guardian, ProPublica, The Drift, Politico Magazine, The Nation, Capital & Main, and Outside Magazine. And my stories have been syndicated in The Atlantic, Mother Jones, Grist, The Colorado Sun, among other places. My story about the battery metals mining boom for The Drift was selected for the 2024 The Best American Science and Nature Writing anthology. That story was also a finalist for a Livingston Award.

Before moving to Colorado for a position with HCN, I worked for E&E News in Washington, D.C., where I reported on environmental and climate politics. I got my journalism start as a general assignment reporter at the Bucks County Courier Times in the suburbs of Philadelphia. A Dow Jones News Fund fellowship placed me at there as an intern, after I graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
